WHO WE ARE

At our core, we are a group of students based out of Texas, researching resiliency, where it comes from and how we can train it. The (hope)? goal is that this project would go beyond the four walls of our classrooms. Imagine what it would look like if every individual had the resilience needed to strategically navigate adversity and triumph through it.

At our core, we are a group of students based out of Texas, researching resiliency, where it comes from and how we can train it. The hope is that we can take this project beyond the four walls of our classrooms. We believe that through research, every individual can have the opportunity to strategically overcome adversity and thrive.

WHY DOES THIS MATTER?

The Grit Factor matters because people matter. Every individual and community faces their own battle. Everywhere we look there are traumatic, gruesome events that rock us to the core. Imagine what it would look like for every individual, group, company, non-profit, student, to be empowered with the mindset necessary to navigate hardship.

By understanding where resiliency comes from and how to train it, we can start to make a difference in the lives of individuals. We hope to empower people with the tools needed to face adversity, persevere and triumph victoriously. As individuals, we may not have the power to change the world, but we do have the power change the world of an individual. That is what this movement is all about. We’re just a group of people, yearning to make a difference in the world, one story at a time.

The movement started with one simple question: Where Does Resilience Come From?

WHY A DOCUMENTARY?

After researching resiliency and hearing these individual’s stories, we realized these stories need to be shared. The Grit Factor documentary is meant to provide a platform for these people to be heard, in hopes that others may be touched and inspired.

There is no greater power than the power of the human story. Testimony in Greek means “to do again”. By having real people share real stories, we strive to instill hope and show others they can thrive too. The Grit Factor team believes the most effective way of reaching the widest audience and in turn, make the largest difference is through digital media.

We want to answer the question: where does resilience come from and how have these individuals acquired it? By finding out what the underlying themes of resilience are, we will gain a thorough understanding of how to better train others to overcome their battles.

We’re on a mission to give voice to silent struggles and inspire hope in a generation of warriors.

Julia's Story

This fundraiser is for Julia Hunter and her family to offset medical expenses. Julia is the eldest of 4 children and is going into her senior year at Newburgh Free Academy High School in NY. She is also a member of the varsity baseball team and has been named a captain next year!

In December 2016 Julia was diagnosed with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS), after ‘a lifetime of pain and eight years of tests, misdiagnoses and ill health’. EDS is a genetic condition that means connective tissue holding the body together is faulty and too weak, causing extreme widespread pain, daily dislocations, cardiac abnormalities and multiple other illnesses. It affects around one in 5,000 people worldwide.

With her strong will and EVERYONE’S prayers and support, we all believe Julia will strike out cancer and smile in the face of adversity! It’s time we come together and help Julia and her family in this time of need!! Please help in any way you can!

Possible signs and symptoms include a lump, abnormal bleeding, prolonged cough, unexplained weight loss, and a change in bowel movements. While these symptoms may indicate cancer, they may have other causes. Over 100 types of cancers affect humans. Tobacco use is the cause of about 22% of cancer deaths. Another 10% are due to obesity, poor diet, lack of physical activity, and excessive drinking of alcohol. Other factors include certain infections, exposure to ionizing radiation and environmental pollutants.

“I knew that this project was something I could  relate to due to personal experiences, which was my main reason being #behindthegrit. I believe that if you have a personal connection with what you are doing, you can put more passion into it and result with better outcomes.”

“The Grit Factor to me is a perfect example of what I believe media needs more of: stories that provide hope to those who have none and to encourage those who are already thriving to keep going. It’s an opportunity of a lifetime to be a part of a project like this, a project that actually matters, so I said yes.”
